Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah by Abu Abdur Rahman Yahya Silmy bin Muhammed Nubar bin Usman bin Noah Lebbe Aala Marikaar As-Saylani Series No. 1 : Meaning of "Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah" The phrase Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah is derived phrase from the texts of Qur'aan and Sunnah. We cannot find this phrase directly in one text of Qur'aan or Sunnah. So one should know to understand the proper meaning and defination of it. Thus the clear picture of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah would be understood by him. Other wise any one with anything could claim to be a Ahlus Sunnah and we would have to rely on what he say because he is claiming him self as Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah. Let us first look into the Arabic meaning of this phrase. The word "Ahl" which in Arabic is "Ăĺá" means "the people of" or you may translate it as "Those who deserve" to be in that particular where it is being mentioned. Thus the word "Ahl" tell us that only those who deserve to be with the next word being used are categorized under this heading. Well the next word is the word of "Sunnah" which is the authentic traditions of the Prophet Muhammed r All those who do not stick to the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammed r does not deserve to be called as those of "Those who deserve to be the folowers of the Prophet Muhammed r " This clearly shows to every one the one who deserve to be under this title of Ahlus Sunnah is those who keep up to the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammed r and those who neglect the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammed r and ignore the people who struggle to follow the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammed r are far away from this defination. The next word of this phrase is the word "wal Jama'ah" Which means "and the Jama'ah". The word "Jama'ah" means "the party" or "the group". Here it should be understood which "Jama'ah" is the phrase talking to us about? Is it of a particular Jama'ah at a particular time or of any Jama'ah at any time. To know this we should know how did this name come to it's phrase and from which text of the Qur'aan and Sunnah did it come as an evidence of this phrase. This word is taken from the famous authentic hadeeth reported by: Imam At-Tirmidhi in his Sunan, Imam Abu Dawud in his Sunan, Imam An-Nasie in his Sunan, Imam Al-lalakie in his Sharh Usool I'tiqaad Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah minal Kiaabi was Sunnathi wa Ijma'a As-Sahaba wa At-Tabeen waman ba'dahum and other scholars of Hadith in their different Hadith references on the authority of Abdullah bin Amr t as the Prophet Muhammed r saying : "That which came to Bani Israel will verily as well come to my nation as similar to the footstep even if that if there was in them (the Bani Israel) who commit with his mother adultery in public as well it would be found in my nation similar to that And verily the Bani Israel divided into seventy two sects and my nation would divide into seventy three sects all are to hell except one" on that the Companions of the Prophet Muhammed r asked : "Who that one is Oh! Rasullullah" The Prophet Muhammed r replied : "Al-Jama'ah" and in another narration as "Ma Ana Alaihe wa Ashabi" which means as "Those who remain on which I and my companions remain they would be that one sect" This word of this hadith is the main form of usage in the phrase "Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah" The word "Al-Jamaa'ah" in this hadith stands with an "Al" which is very important in Arabic, This "Al" gives the word the particular meaning of it, thus it becomes a particular group to which it is being addressed and not just a general group or party which ever it could be. The main thing over here is one should know to recognize who is that particular group or party the "Al" of this "AlJama'ah" word stands, not going far the very same next narration of this hadith gives us the commentary for this word which is the statement "In which I and my companions are" Thus we understand that the "Al" in the word "Al-Jama'ah" stands for the companions of the Prophet Muhammed r and not any one else. If this matter was taken even just rationally without any narration still it tells us that it could be only the companions of the Prophet Muhammed r as the particular party being addressed by the Prophet Muhammed r cannot be other than them as there are no any Muslms at that time other than the Prophet Muhammed r and his companions. From this the clear meaning of the word of "Al-Jama'ah" comes to us. Thus the meaning of the whole phrase "Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah" means in the normal Arabic language as those who are strickly following the Sunnah as that of the method applied by the Prophet Muhammad r and his Companions.were at that time.
This phrase "Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah" is a dervied phrase from the texts of the Qur'aanic verse and Sunnah.
If they all have faith as similar to that which you all have faith then
they will verily get guidance, And if they turn back they are in a
departion, Allah is plenty enough for you all, He is the most hearing and
the most Knowledge full.
(Surah Al-Baqara Verse No. 137)
And those who departed from the Messenger after the guidance was shown to them and follow the path other than of the believers we would let him go to the path where he want's to go, and his goal will be the hell, and what he does is all worst.

The texts of Sunnah The nation of "Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah" The nations before Islam, nations of Bani Israel and others were destroyed only because they divided into parts and sects in their relgious matters. Allah has clearly mentioned in the Qur'aan the reason for this divisions is due to thier tyranny as in the following Qur'aanic verse : And then : The most important matter for a person is : Knowing the Aqeedah of the religion and of those matters which he has given responsibility to his slaves of understanding the Tawheed, His attributes and believing the Prophets with evidence and surety and the method to reach to the understanding of the evidence should be with clear cut proofs and evidences. The most strongest speech and the clear evidence and logical matter is The book of Allah The Clear Truth. And then the saying of the Prophet Muhammedr. And then his chosed companions the Mutaqeens.. And then what was agreed by the Pious Ancestors . And then to avoid from all the bida'a (innovations) and listening to them which has been invented by the wrong doers.. All those who want recognize the "Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah" in it's original form of narration have a more better understanding of the rules and regulations followed by that previous generation. Thus every time in history The people who awakened this Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah form should have enough knowledge to reach to these sources and access them and understand them well, here I qoute to you about the sayings of the different Imams to know more about how to know the pure Islam which is now for us 1400 years old there is only one way it could reach is either we should walk back to the history to collect the knowledge from the oldest source or let us imagine of something as a fact of it.
