From the Ansaar and Talhah, , For the Prophet,

Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, And Its Signs © 1997 Invitation to
Islam
Chapter: The Second Sign: Total Willingness to Sacrifice One's Person
and Wealth for the Sake of the Prophet,
Some of the archers at the
battle of Uhud made a mistake, by leaving their positions. A group from the army
of the Quraysh of Makkah under the leadership of Khaalid bin al-Waleed came from
behind the Muslims. A lapse took place and confusion occurred in the ranks of
the Islaamic forces, until only eleven men remained with the Noble Messenger,
, and the polytheists had reached the Noble
Messenger,
, and the eleven men with him.
So what did these true,
righteous devotees do to protect their loved one?
Let us read what Imaam an-Nisaa'ee
related from Jaabir bin `Abdullaah, , when he said: On the Day
of Uhud, when the people had fled, the Messenger of Allah,
, was in an area with twelve men from the Ansaar among them was Talhah
bin `Ubaydullaah,
.
The polytheists came upon them,
then the Messenger of Allaah,
, turned and said:
Who will fight them? Talhah said: I will. The Messenger of Allaah,
, said: (Stay) as you are. A man came from the Ansaar and said: I (will
go), O Messenger of Allaah.
So he said: You (go and fight).
So he fought until he died. Then he turned and again the polytheists were there,
and he said: Who will fight them? Talha
said: I will. The Messenger of Allaah,
, said: (Stay) as you are: A man from the Ansaar
said: I (will go), O Messenger of Allaah. So he said: You (go and fight). So he
fought until he died.
The Prophet,
, did not cease to say this; sending one of the men of the Ansaar to
fight the same fight as the man before him till he was killed. Until there
remained only the Messenger of Allaah,
, and Talhah
ibn `Ubaydullaah,
.
So the Messenger of Allaah,
, said: Who will fight them? Talhah
replied, I
will. So Talha fought the fight of the eleven (who were before him) until his
hand was struck and his fingers were cut off and he said (to himself): Feel it.
The Messenger of Allaah,
, said: If you had said Bismillaah (in the Name of
Allaah), then angels would have lifted you while the people were staring. Then
Allaah drove back the polytheists. [Saheeh Sunan an-Nisaa'ee 1/27]
Allaahu Akbar! Eleven of those
who loved him sacrificed their souls for their loved one, the beloved of the
Lord of the Worlds,
, and the twelfth Talhah bin
`Ubaydullaah,
; his defence of the Prophet,
,
was not an easy task. He had fought the fight of the eleven before him and his
hand was cut when he protected the Messenger of Allaah,
.
Imaam al-Bukhaaree related from
Qays who said: I saw the hand of Talhah,
, paralyzed while
protecting the Prophet,
, on the day of Uhud.
[Related by al-Bukhaaree 7/359]
By the Lord of Muhammad,
, how pure and privileged was this hand, which was
paralyzed in defense of the most holy and beloved creation of Allaah, the Most
High, and how privileged was its owner!
It was not just his hand that
was wounded and paralyzed during the defense of al-Habeeb, al-Kareem,
, in fact his whole body was wounded, as he had
around seventy wounds.
Imaam Aboo Dawood at-Tayaalisee
related from `Aa'ishah, radiyallaahu `anhaa, that Aboo Bakr as-Siddeeq,
, said: Then we came to Talhah in a pit in the ground, he had
more or less seventy wounds from stabs, arrows, and blows. [Minhat ul-Ma`bood fi
Tarteeb Musnad at-Tayaalisee Abee Daawood 2/99. See also Fath ul-Baaree 7/82-83]
Whenever he remembered the day
of Uhud, Aboo Bakr as-Siddeeq,
, would cry, then say: All of
that day was Talhah's day. [See Minhaj ul-Ma`bood 2/99]
May Allaah be pleased with
Talhah and
as-Siddeeq and all those who truly loved
al-Habeeb, al-Kareem,
